In contemporary literature "Lust" can be defined in two ways;

A) A very strong sexual or inappropriate desire, a desire that would take a person away from the reality and he would perhaps end us perceiving his ownership as true everlasting ownership. Wars, bloodsheds, invasions, treasons, corruption are the outcome of improper use of lust.

B) A passionate desire for something, Almost all the victories, scientific discoveries, philosophic ideas and many advances in various fields are the results of this aspect of man. A wise person would properly channel this trait of his for the betterment of humanity and as a means to get close to reality and hence perfection.

Surely Human beings are created greedy. (70:19) Man is greedy by nature and it is not a negative trait, it is a part of fitrah; however, when it tends to become impulsive and a person seeks to go to extremes to achieve worldly benefits and to satisfy carnal desires eventually going astray, this trait becomes a negative attribute. Lust is part of the faculty of desire and must be governed by the faculty of Intellect.
